PRESS: Defense Ministry’s telecom operator head detained for fraud

MOSCOW, Dec 26 (PRIME) -- General Director of Voentelecom, a telecom operator for Russia’s Defense Ministry, Alexander Davydov has been detained in Moscow on suspicions of stealing some 500 million rubles from state contracts, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday.

Officers of the Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service searched Davydov’s office and car on Monday. After that the executive was detained for 48 hours. The measures were held within the investigation opened in 2013 on the basis of materials of scrutiny received from the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office.

Davydov is suspected of cheating with the state contracts signed with the Defense Ministry on delivery of routing devices and designer supervision over satellite connection.

The people earlier involved in the criminal case were Voentelecom’s First Deputy Director Oleg Savitsky, former advisor to the general director Dmitry Semiletov, and head of company-subcontractor RCI Tatyana Ilyina.

At the helm since 2013, Davydov pushed Voentelecom forward into the top 20 biggest IT companies in Russia and implemented more than 10 investment projects in the research and development sphere, among others.
